Grade Scale
F D- D D+ C C+ B- B B+ A- A A+ 0-54 55-62 63-67 68-73 74-77 78-80 81-83 84-86 87-89 90-92 93-95 96-99 Grade Formula (with important notes)
- Informal Writing Assignments and Formal Papers 50%
- Writing projects may include turning in drafts, source material, copies of peer reviews, or evidence of visiting the writing center in the library or a success center off campus
- Oral Reports and Other Homework 10%
- These grades will be averaged; be aware of the mathematical impact of a zero on any average
- Quizzes & Tests (featuring writing) 15%
- Quizzes will be average to get a quiz score; tests will be average to get a test score; the quiz score will be worth less than the test score; the class will vote on the proportion at some point
- Self-Assessment Reports 10%
- These require answering questions in clear, grammatical prose about your attendance, homework, reading, class participation, etc. I will check your report against my records and memory for accuracy and also evaluate its grammar and completeness. I will either approve the grade you assign yourself or I will raise or lower the grade on the basis of accuracy, grammar, or completeness.
- Office and Writing Center Visits 5%
- Students must visit my office or the writing center once each month from January to May. If no visit is made by the end of the month, the student gets no credit for that visit. Each visit is worth one point of your final grade. Be aware that office hours are first come, first served; thus, if you wait until the last day, you may not get credit for an office hour visit and need to race over to the writing center before the month ends! Students need to turn in a stamped form from the writing center or a writing center print out to me personally--do not expect the writing center to notify me.
- Final Exam 10%
- This is at the time set in the official Chaffey class schedule: May 17 at 4:15 to 6:45.
