EXPLANATION OF THE PRINTS OF FASHION.

FRENCH.

No. 1. --PUBLIC PROMENADE DRESS.

[from page 84] Round dress of dove-coloured sarsnet, ornamented at the border with four rows of quilling of white satin ribband. A three quarter pelisse of rich pale blue levantine, buttoned down the front, the border finished by a double flounce of broad white lace of a Vandyke pattern.

ENGLISH.

No. 2. --OPERA AND EVENING HOME COSTUME.

Frock of white tissue gauze over shite satin, ornamented round the border in a novel and unique style with white satin flutings. Opera hood surmounted by a full farland of roses and lillies of the valley.

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS ON FASHION AND DRESS.

[from page 84] The newest article for pelisses is of plush silk, and has a most novel and elegant effect; a hat of the same amterial, corwoned with feathers, Indian corn, or flowers, completes this comfortable and fashionabe envelope. After this we have little to record that is new, for the Witchouras, wraps, and spensers continue the same as last month.

[from page 85] For head-dresses, the Opera hood and the Gloucester cap bear a decided preference; the former is faithfully copied in our Print of English fashions, and the latter is amost becoming and appropriate headdress for dinner parties or morning visits of ceremony: it is made of fine tulle, and surmounted by a most beautiful wreath of pink China astres.

The favourite colours are pale garnet, emerald green, Tyrian purple, garter blue, and pink.
